The security supervisor supervises the security policies of a business by directing the security personnel. This involves ensuring that each employees adhere to company security guidelines and perform their responsibilities and also evaluating the actions of the group in general to ensure maximum efficiency. The job may also involve looking over the workplace or the area of protection for security issues or weaknesses and, after identifying these possible risks the security supervisor will report the situation to a supervisor, and formulates a plan of actions to mitigate the risks. A further important aspect of the job of a security supervisor is communicating with a range of people, such as discussing any changes or developments with the property's management, communicating status reports to the company or client as well as providing feedback and direction to security personnel. In addition, the Security Supervisor should be able to adapt and be able to be on site whenever issues occur.

Security supervisors typically possess a high school diploma however, most businesses prefer a college degree. Security supervisors should possess at least five years of experience in security and it is recommended that applicants have previous experience in managing a security team with 10 or more people.
