Para-educators (K-12) must possess at minimum an associate's degree as well as at least one year of working experience with children suffering from various behavior, learning, and medical impairments. To be successful in this job they should have an empathetic and calm manner to deal with various unexpected situations and also to think quickly on their feet.

Para-educators usually aid a primary teacher in helping to ensure a safe and effective environment for students to learn in.
