A bank relationship manager plays an important link between the institution and its customers. They are required to establish new customer connections and maintain existing ones. The responsibilities of a bank relationship manager are as varied as the clients they serve. They usually deal with customer concerns regarding accounts, investment options and loans. These problems require that the manager be aware of the products and services offered by their bank and also the services offered by rival banks. The bank relationship manager has a variety of managerial duties. They are required to accurately present the customer's relationship to their supervisors, study trends in the customer and present their results to the bank's director or president.
Alongside these duties, relationship managers frequently present at community gatherings to highlight their company and its offerings which helps to create awareness among prospective customers, and also communicates to existing customers that the bank is committed to a community-based involvement. They typically work at banks during normal working hours. A relationship manager could also work in a variety of financial investment companies that could be extensions or subsidiaries of the home bank.
The job usually requires an undergraduate degree in finance, banking or management, or any related area. Experience in a similar setting, usually as a bank teller, or in a different entry-level job, is also required. Continuous training and professional development could also be necessary.
