A quality assurance (QA) or senior (QA)/quality control (QC) inspector is a manager-level employee who is responsible for the security and reliability of products manufactured, construction projects, and engineered equipment. The person in charge ensures that each step in the procedure, the product they are examining is in compliance with the standards required to continue the contracting or engineering process(es).

An experienced QA/QC Inspector typically is employed by a large contracting or construction firm. They conduct regular inspections of the work site to make sure that the work is in line with the design work of the engineers and architects. They conduct tests to determine the quality of the construction materials to ensure the safety of the construction site and the project. In addition, they conduct regular, continuous testing of design, systems and construction materials throughout the construction period and provide to the manager of the project regular feedback that is used to improve the process.

In a manufacturing environment an experienced inspector for quality assurance and control (QA/QC) performs the same job, but on a smaller and more routine scale. The inspector examines the manufacturing products as they are put together in the factory to ensure whether they are in line with the specifications of the original design. They oversee tests on the products to ensure that they function as intended and also conduct regular inspections of the integrity of the components used for assembly. In addition, the QA/QC inspector provides regular updates to the facility manager who utilizes the feedback to modify and control the process to ensure the highest efficiency, safety, and the quality of the final products.

For this job the person require a minimum bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or another related field. In addition, particularly in construction work further safety certifications are mandatory and have to be maintained up-to-date in all jurisdictions. The QA/QC inspector usually is employed during normal working hours, either at the facility or on construction locations. As a senior member of the staff they usually oversee a group of employees who perform the routine, less analytical aspects in the process of quality control.
