- Use various Application Programming Interfaces (API) to collect data from social media sources like YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, and Instagram. To gain insights into the data sources and people behind it, process the collected data using methods such as regression, classification, correlation and regression. Analyze unstructured data, primarily textual comments, to find sentiments in them. You can use different tools to collect, analyze, and explore social media data for research or development purposes. Example Learner Story: A data analyst looking to harness social media data. Isabella is a Data Analyst who works as a consultant in a multinational company. She is familiar with both Web analysis tools and marketing data. She is now looking to expand her social media presence and to make the most of the huge amount of data that is available via various social media channels. She wants to know how clients, partners, competitors and other people view their products/services, as well as what they think about them. She wants to create a new data analytics workflow that combines traditional data processing with Web and marketing tools as well as newer ways of using social media data. These are some examples of job roles that require these skills: – Social Media Analyst – Web Analyst – Data Analyst – Marketing and Public Relations Final Project Deliverable/ Artifact : This course will include a series or mini-projects that involve data analysis, presentation, and collection from various social media sources. Dr. Chirag Shah developed the course while he was a Rutgers University faculty member. He is currently an instructor at University of Washington.
