Course Description

An essay describes a piece of writing that presents the author's view on a topic. This is often a short piece. Structured essays are taught to students in secondary and college. Essays are used to assess their understanding and mastery of course material. In essays, students are asked to comment on, explain, or evaluate a topic of study. Many colleges also use essays to select applicants for admission.

The narrativeessay describes a type of essay in which the writer uses narration, or a story, to make a point, share an experience, or persuade.

This course will help you to understand the narrative essay and improve your writing skills. We will look at some examples of narrative essays to see how professionals have used them. As a final project we will create our own narrative essay.

This class is part of a series that Dr. McIntyre has created on essay writing.
