Description

Group account directors are responsible for heading the accounting team of a corporation, or serve as a Chief Officer in charge of managing all accounts and accountants for a business. Group account directors work with a variety of companies, including major corporations, large businesses, universities, non-profits, and government agencies. The main task of those in this position is to manage (and make profitable) all of their company's accounts, and completing this task requires excellent management and accounting skills.

Many companies expect the group accounting director to oversee the development of all accountants in the department, as well. Managing subordinates is part of this job and, in many cases, they must also provide training and support for their team. Group account directors are often required to have at least a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, though most employers will require a Master's degree in Accounting or a relevant field such as Business or Finance. Those pursuing this position must also have multiple years of accounting and management experience and display superior planning, executive, communication, and networking skills.

Many group account directors are responsible for the financial direction and planning of their respective companies. Most work normal daytime business hours, plus some overtime on nights and weekends if needed. Those with a role closer to that of an executive can expect to work more overtime and irregular hours. Typically, group accountant directors work in an office building with their own office, and some have an assistant or secretary.
