Course Description
This class will go deeper into Procreate settings such as the gradient map, clone brush and curves adjustments. There may be more along the way. The Clone Tool is one such tool that you might think, "What's the point?" It has been a very useful tool for me. This powerful feature is helping me to create seamless repeat tile swatches. These swatches can be uploaded to sites such as Spoonflower and used as-is. They can also be used in Photoshop or another software. These seamless swatches can be used to create custom patterns brushes.
This class, I show you how to create seamless repeat patterns in Procreate, . To create a splatter effect, we first create the first one from a downloaded file. The second is a full-sized watercolour swatch and the third is a paint drip effect. Each challenge presents its own challenges that we must deal with.
This class will walk you through:
- My step-by-step guide to creating seamless patterns in Procreate
- My workflow for using the clonebrush to hide seams
- Adjusting patterns to make them look better when they are used for brush making
- Watercolour backgrounds that are completely seamless and can change color.
- Methods to create textures using photos or other originals
- Tips for creating appealing compositions using background brushes
You don't need to be an expert in Procreate to follow the steps. Anyone who wants to make seamless patterns more efficient and simplify their creation will benefit from this class.
I will be including the following key concepts:
- Review of my brush alterations.
- Take a look at Procreate brushes with all their idiosyncrasies
- There are many approaches that you can use in your creative work
This class is ideal for you even if the purpose of the pattern is not clear to you. It can be used for custom web graphics, fabric design for websites like Spoonflower, scrapbooking papers, or any other purpose. It is always a pleasure to learn new Procreate workflows. You will be able to create something truly appealing once you master it.
Introduction to Clone tool for creating seamless repeat patterns in Procreate
This brief introduction will give you a general overview of the class.
Lesson 1 - Ideas to Spark Creativity
This lesson will explain Creative Commons license items and show you how to achieve them. We download a file to my Creative Cloud from my desktop. I then show you how easy it is to access the file on my iPad. I go over all the originals that we will use to make repeat tiles.
Lesson 2 - Demonstration the Entire Process
This lesson will show you how to create a seamless pattern with the clone tool. I will show you how to adjust texture for class. I will show you how to adjust the curves as well as hue, saturation to transform the source file into contrasting grays and blacks that can be used in making the brush.
Lesson 3 - Converting the Texture into a Brush
This lesson will focus on the setting of the brush studio. To create two brushes, we use the texture. One in positive and one in a negative form. This allows us to create very different brushes for this texture. I will also show you how to adjust the brush stroke's shape and the size of the grain.
Lesson 4 - Creating a Challenge
This is the lesson I teach you how to create a complex seamless pattern using the Clone Brush. There is an obvious spot at the seams that must be repaired. As we go through this lesson, I show you several solutions using brushes. We have the black and the white we need to use the Procreate brush. We also have a full-color swatch that we will use in Photoshop to create a seamless repeat of full-color.
Lesson 5 - Using the Swatch in Adobe Photoshop
I'd like to take a moment to show you how to use the swatch in Photoshop. I conclude the lesson in Procreate by showing you how to create a combo swatch. We will overcome many of these challenges. I also demonstrate how to use the gradient map to remove color in the original watercolour.
Lesson 6 - Another Challenge Swatch
This is a very different type of swatch and requires some difficult solutions. To create a great swatch, we use a flip to connect the sides. Then we use the clonebrush to go through the same steps.
Lesson 7 - Using the Brushes to Create Finished Art
This lesson will show you two completed artworks using the brushes we created. You will be amazed at the additional adjustments I make to the brushes.
Lesson 8 - Conclusion, Mockups, and Next Steps
In this lesson, we will finish everything. Here are a few mock-ups of the background patterns I have used. This will demonstrate how versatile this technique is and how important experimentation can be in your design development. This is the final step. In this lesson, I will be wrapping it up.
Concepts covered
These concepts include, but are not limited, to the Procreate seamless repeat pattern design, Procreate repeat pattern designs using the clone tool, layering, transparency using the Procreate brush stamps and Procreate canvas settings, using Procreate Gradient Map, hue, saturation adjustments, selecting feathering, Procreate snapping, guides, Procreate pattern brush creating, Procreate art licensing, Procreate pattern stamp brush creation, Procreate Brush Studio in Procreate and adjusting Procreate brushes, sizing documents and brushes compositions, adding texture brush stamps, Procreate composites, Procreate techniques with paints and blending techniques with paints and Procreate composites, Procreate composites, Procreate blending and procreate composites
