The learning opportunity can be accessed as an open resource to lifelong learning. This course aims to help you understand the benefits and consequences of emerging and established technology tools to personal and professional development. It also provides strategies for lifelong learning.
The project is composed of two parts: #EmTechMOOC, and EmTechWIKI.
The Massive Open Online Course #EmTechMOOC, also known as a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), is hosted on Coursera. This MOOC, which is hosted by Coursera, provides an environment that encourages dialogue and allows participants to share their knowledge. Five modules form the MOOC's course. These concepts include Lifelong Learning and 21st century skills, including communication and collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. To showcase their achievements and learning, participants create digital artifacts using Discovery Exercises. Learners are encouraged to reflect and summarize their learning experience in the final module.
EmTechWIKI ( http://suny.edu/emtech ) has been built to complement the MOOC. This socially-curated search engine allows you to find tutorials and tools as well as resources like audio, video blogs, social networks, simulations and others. You can use the WIKI as an independent resource or in conjunction with #EmTechMOOC. Anybody can add and edit WIKI resources.
The #EmTechMOOC course is different from a typical MOOC. This course is not a traditional MOOC. Instead, it guides learners through discovery-based learning. The course encourages learners to search for and use new tools and resources from both the EmTechWIKI library and the Internet in order to meet their personal objectives. Through the exercises, participants can create an ePortfolio (public ePortfolio) or a personal journal to reflect and share what they have learned.
To earn the Coursera Certificate and digital badge, you must complete all MOOC requirements. Affiliates of SUNY may receive badges and a Coursera Certificate without having to pay fees.
