Course Description

Stackdriver Monitoring, a powerful cloud monitoring tool, is seamlessly integrated with almost every service on Google Cloud Platform. Stackdriver Monitoring can make your architecture more efficient, improve its design, and simplify troubleshooting. This course, Managing Cloud Resource Using Google Stackdriver will teach you how to monitor and track your cloud resources, respond to alerts and provide support via Stackdriver Monitoring. You will first learn about Stackdriver concepts like metrics, monitored resources and workspaces. We will also learn how to install the Stackdriver Monitoring Agent and when it is required. Next, we will show you how to monitor third party applications and create custom metrics. The Metrics Explorer will be used to create metrics and resources that can be monitored. We'll then create dashboards to track these metrics. To notify you of problems with resource health, you can also set up alerts and uptime checks. Stackdriver supports HTTP, HTTPS and TCP uptime checks. These probes are controlled by VPC firewall rules. They must also be correctly set up. You will also learn how to set alert variables, create checks for missing metrics, analyze incidents and events, and integrate third-party tools. You will be integrating Stackdriver Monitoring and OpsGenie which is an incident management and alerting platform. The course will be completed by programming with the Stackdriver monitoring API within Datalab python notebooks. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to monitor, troubleshoot and analyze your cloud resources.

Skills You Will Gain

What You Will Learn

Finally, you will explore how to create checks for the absence of metrics, set variables in alerts, and explore incidents and events and integrate with third-party tools

In this process, we will learn how to install the Stackdriver monitoring agent, and also when that agent is and is not required

Next, you will discover how to monitor third-party applications and work with custom metrics

Specifically, you will integrate Stackdriver Monitoring with OpsGenie, which is an alerting and incident management platform

Stackdriver supports uptime checks in HTTP, HTTPS, and TCP

The probes sent by these checks are governed by VPC firewall rules, so those must be set up correctly as well

We will create resources to monitor as well as metrics associated with those resources, then use the Metrics Explorer to create dashboards to keep track of those metrics

When you’re finished with this course, you will have the skills and knowledge of Stackdriver Monitoring needed to monitor, troubleshoot, and analyze the usage of your cloud resources

You will also configure uptime checks and alerts to notify you when resource health is not satisfactory

You will learn Stackdriver concepts such as metrics, monitored resources, workspaces, and alerting policies

You will round out the course by programmatically working with the Stackdriver Monitoring API from within Datalab python notebooks
