Course Description

This course is intended to provide you with a high-level understanding of current medical codes and payment methods for most U.S. healthcare services. It's also known as fee-for service. The fee-for-service model in the U.S. healthcare system has led to higher healthcare costs and not improved health outcomes. This course will discuss the importance of accurately coding chronic conditions and other diagnoses, and how value-based payments and care use these data and measures. You'll learn about a new model that replaces fee-for-service. The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network will provide a variety of value-based payment options. You will also learn about how quality scores and risk-adjustment are important parts of value-based care. You will be demonstrating your knowledge through the summative assignment.
