Course Description

What would your digital portfolio look like without vectors?

This class will be a discussion about vectorizing images, one of my most important skills as a digital artist.

They are a great tool that I use all the time in my art. I have found Image Trace to be a very useful tool. However, was not the best for me when I first started using it.

The pen tool can be difficult to master and can take a lot of time to learn, even if you are a pro.

Image Trace was the only option for complex images. I had difficulty tracing small or pixelated Jpegs. Large images took too long between edits or gave poor results.

I tried out PS. It immediately got better. It was amazing to be able find elements and keep them in such a valuable format.

I searched online and found no one teaching this concept. So I decided to share it. This skill really helped me and I hope it helps others. I am thrilled for your art and the excitement of creating vectors that you can use for future projects and now!

This class covers pre-editing and vectorization for three types artwork.

PHOTOGRAPHS,

MARKER DRAWINGS,

FOUND ELEMENTS (online images with low quality or small size)

We also cover all options in Image Trace.

Here's an overview of the core lessons we will cover in this class

Diving into Image Trace

Have you ever wanted to learn image trace but never had the time?

While playing with an orange, we'll go over every option in the Image Trace panel.

Vectorizing Photos Pre-Edits

Once we have a clear understanding of what we want in a photo we can go into Photoshop to make the necessary adjustments. These changes can be made with adjustment layers or Camera Raw Filters.

Vectorizing Photos With Image Trace

We will immediately turn our image into vectors and create a subject from our photo.

UPDATE Photoshop's subject selection tool has improved and is now worth a mention. Learn more in the (official) Adobe article and/or (unofficial+unaffiliated) video

Vectorizing Drawings Pre Edits

Vectorization was made for marker drawings! You may not need to pre-edit images. However, we will show you how to ensure that the image trace does its job.

Vectorizing Drawings With Image Trace

We will make the vector from the marker drawing that my girlfriend made. Once we have the one-color vector, you can replace the fill with whatever you like!

Vectorizing Found Elements

This lesson will show you how to quickly pre-edit small images found online and then create vectors of high-quality.

This class is very short and easy. I believe vectorizing (or tracing) is one the most rewarding skills you can learn. You will have a lot of fun creating great-looking vectors.

I'll see ya in class
