Description

A civil engineer is under the supervision by a manager for projects in order to create study and plans for civil engineering projects in land development engineering. Projects that could be considered include storm drain, utility sewer, water streets, traffic, and utility plans for projects that fall within the area of service of the company. Civil engineers must collaborate effectively with both internal and external partners, and coordinate with government agencies for developments on land. They collaborate closely with colleagues to develop knowledge of requirements for the project and develop designs in accordance with office policies, procedures, and guidelines. In all their work, they must adhere to the standards of drawing preparation for company drawings.

In many cases, civil engineers need to provide advice to colleagues who are less knowledgeable about the procedures they use to develop designs. Designers are also accountable for supplying updates to the project manager about their progress as well as any new issues or concerns. In general, civil engineers are in the office during normal business hours.

Employers typically require that civil engineering engineers possess a bachelor's education in civil engineering, or in a related field from a recognized program. Candidates also need at least two or four years of experience in civil engineering and proficiency in AutoCAD (including Civil 3D experience). They should also be able to be able to work in a group in a team environment and possess outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
