IT directors are responsible for managing and directing information technologies (IT) Directors are accountable for directing and managing the IT operations of their organizations as well as providing technical and leadership guidance to the departments they lead. They are also responsible in determining efficient strategies for the deployment of software and technology, testing the performance of hardware and software before introduction to management, and coordinating schedules and deployment contracts.
Directors build solid business relations with vendors in order to get lower prices and save resources. They must also be able to work in a team working environment with other supervisors and managers to achieve targets within the timeframes set. Their primary responsibilities could include the distribution of budgets and report on their performance to supervisors or vice president within their company. They should have the capabilities to communicate information concepts and explain technological processes in depth and facilitate the interactions with IT professionals customers, vendors and employees. They could also be charged with identifying innovative solutions to workplace conflicts employing Microsoft Office programs, troubleshooting software, and managing various operating systems.
The employees in this job are primarily working in offices and could be required to develop IT policies and guidelines for their company. They are required to constantly evaluate the company's requirements and needs, and work to offer excellent customer service by providing quality training in service for all IT personnel. An undergraduate degree from information systems, computer science or another similar field is usually required for this job, having previous experience as a director is extremely beneficial.
