Description

Managers of technical sales are accountable for various tasks that are related to technical sales such as analyzing competitors, identifying sales opportunities and closing new accounts via fax, phone, and via email. They also have the responsibility of confirming and entering details about accounts, looking into the customer's accounts and purchasing histories, recommending related and new products to customers, and identifying and tracking issues. Other duties performed by technical sales managers include making recommendations for changes to policies and procedures, and tracking orders, in addition to creating rapport with customers, and providing technical details and explanations when required. They also manage and repair equipment, and supervise the activities of salespersons within their respective departments.

The requirements for this job generally include an undergraduate degree and at minimum two years of experience in the field. To be successful technical sales managers must possess a good understanding of the technical aspects of the products they sell and be organized. They should also have outstanding written and oral communication abilities, and be capable of building a strong relationship with coworkers and clients. They should have previous experience in data entry and be driven to achieve and exceed sales targets.

Technical sales managers typically work during normal working hours, though they may need to work overtime; traveling may be required in order to visit customers and other companies. They usually work in the indoors alongside coworkers as well as customers.
