Institute Overview

The NIT, Tiruchirappalli, is one of the oldest units of the National Institute of Technology, established in 1964 by the government of India. The UGC and AICTE also gave it deemed university status in 2003. NIT Trichy has consistently exceeded at quality higher education and maintained its long legacy of premier education.

NIT Trichy has 10 branches of Under Graduate courses, 21 disciplines for the postgraduate course in Engineering, Management, and Architecture. The institute also offers MS and Ph.D. for candidates in all the departments.

The institute was ranked 9th by NIRF in the top engineering college ranking 2020, 1st among all NITs in India, 35th in the management category, 8th in the architecture category, and 24th in the Overall category.

In 2015 National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli has been awarded ‘University of the Year‘ by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Each year NIIT Attracts around 250 companies, including Genpact, Sensiple, Cognizant, HCL, TechMahindra, CAT, for placements. The highest CTC Offered was 42LPA. The UG students placements for 2020 were about 96.2% for BTech, and the postgraduate placement percentage was approximately 92.2%. About 220 companies visited the national institute of technology Trichy to recruit the best minds of the country.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran (chairman of Tata Sons), K.R.Sridhar (founder and CEO of Bloom energy), Late Dr. Panyam R. Ramprasad (Ex-Program Director & Associate Director, DRDL), Shri.R. KrishNULL, Director (HR), BHEL, Shri.S. Srinivasan (CEO, IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Ltd) are some of the Notable Alumni of NIT Trichy.
