Institute Overview

The British Film Institute (BFI), a charity that is governed by a Royal Charter, was established in 1933.

The BFI combines cultural, creative, and industrial roles. It includes the BFI National Archive, BFI Reuben Library and film distribution. BFI grants Lottery funding for film production, distribution and education.

Film Forever, the five-year strategic plan of the BFI for support UK film, is available here. It covers all activities of the BFI and is based on three priorities: education and audiences, support to the UK film industry, and unlocking film history.
