USM The University System of Maryland is Maryland's public higher education system. Its members are all public universities in Maryland, except Morgan State University and St. Mary's College. The USM also includes one research institute and three regional higher-education centers in addition to the 12 degree-granting institutions. More than 1400 academic programs are offered by our 12 institutions to over 176,000 students at various locations throughout the state as well as worldwide.
The Kirwan Center supports USM institutions with strategic online learning initiatives since its inception. AEURoeOnline learningaEUR is a learning environment that makes use of web-based components that allow collaboration and access to other content. The USM offers a variety of online learning options, including MOOCs and fully online certificates.
The Kirwan Center launched USMx in order to advance this work. It allows institutions to take advantage of the online learning affordances to allow students to interact with faculty and content in the most convenient way for them.
USMx's mission is to offer both innovative e-learning technology and the support, planning, and resources necessary to implement online learning. Our institutions are able to achieve their mission of offering affordable, high-quality higher education to diverse students in Maryland and around the world.
