Course Description

Modern information systems are built on networks. They are constantly evolving and adapting to the changing infrastructure and cybersecurity needs.

There is a growing demand for infrastructure networking experts in computing digital technologies and infrastructure engineering as networks expand.

This ten-week microcredential is offered by Cisco and The Open University. It will lay the foundation for your Cisco Certified Network Associate certification.

This course is for network engineers and digital technologists who want to have a solid foundation in basic networking concepts. It prepares them for various technology careers, including the Cisco Certified Network Associate.

Learn the fundamentals of networking, from network technologies and principles to the structure and principles of IP addressing Ethernet concepts as well as network application communications.

The course will teach you how to use a variety of networking concepts, create a basic networking address scheme, and experiment with a network environment. You will also learn how to set up basic router and switch configurations, and implement IP address schemes.

This microcredential has been endorsed by Cisco. It was created by top experts and practitioners of The Open University's award winning Cisco NetAcad' academy.

You'll learn through guided academic learning in an online learning environment. Mentor support is available. Share your experiences with others and start your Cisco Certified Network Associate certification journey to secure your future in networking.

This course is part of a 3-part microcredential path that prepares you for the CCNA Certification (content previously covered in the CCNA Routing and Switching certificate).

Part 1: CCNA – Introduction to Networks

Part 2: CCNA – Switching Wireless and Routing Essentials (coming soon).

Part 3: CCNA – Enterprise Networking Automation and Security (coming soon).

The next two microcredentials will cover the wide range of technologies used to create current networks, such as Internet corporate networks and domestic broadband and WiFi connections.

After completing the microcredential pathway, you will be ready to take the Cisco Certified Associate certification. This will set you up for a successful career in networking.
