Course Description

This course on fur-free fashion aims to educate students in the fashion industry about the importance of sustainability. By examining the fur industry, students will gain insight into the effects of fur production on animals, humans, and the environment. The course will also explore how the fashion industry contributes to air, water, and waste pollution. Students will learn about fur farming and its impact on farmers and animals. In addition to sustainability issues related to fur, students will also learn design and business strategies for creating fashion brands that are compassionate towards animals and ethical for humans. They will have the opportunity to analyze the business plans of various fashion brands and designers and use them to develop their own fashion business and career plans. The course is taught by ECTAsia, an organization that has been working on the fur issue in China for over a decade, and John Lau, Associate Dean at London College of Fashion, has developed the curriculum and serves as an advisor. Through this course, students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to identify and address harmful practices in the fashion industry that exploit the environment, people, and animals.
