Course Description

This course teaches individuals how to program precise orientations and set goals for spacecraft that move through three-dimensional space. The course begins by discussing stability definitions for nonlinear dynamical systems, emphasizing the differences between global and local stability. Students will then learn how to apply Lyapunov's Direct Method to prove these stability characteristics. The course also covers the development of a nonlinear 3-axis attitude-pointing control law using the Lyapunov theorem. Furthermore, students will study closed-loop dynamics and alternate feedback control laws.

Upon completing this course, students will be able to differentiate among various nonlinear stability concepts. They will also gain proficiency in using Lyapunov's direct method to argue stability and convergence in different dynamical systems. Additionally, students will learn how to determine attitude errors and rate for 3-axis attitude control using the Lyapunov theory. Lastly, the course covers the analysis of rigid-body control convergence with unmodeled torque.
