Course Description

Learn how the bottom-up approach works

The bottom-up approach to environment policy involves activists and entrepreneurs who influence policy by taking action at the ground level. This approach has proven to be very effective in motivating change.

This four-week course by the Adam Smith Centre will help you understand the bottom-up approach in environmentalism. This course will teach you about the process, its implementations and its advantages over the traditional top-down approach.

Check out case studies to see the real-world applications for the bottom-up approach.

Although it is inspiring, the bottom up approach can be difficult to implement in a real-world setting.

This course will provide you with dynamic and engaging case studies that highlight the success of people who have used the bottom-up approach to make a difference. This course will give you an insight into the effects of local self-governance, and how to apply these principles in your environment.

Learn about the impact of Nobel Prize winner Elinor Obstrom on resource management

Elinor Ostrom, a political economist and Nobel Prize Winner, was well-known for her work on economic governance and resource management policy.

You'll learn all about Ostrom's work and how it influenced environmental policy-making, governance, and other areas. You'll be able to apply Ostrom's principles to your own environmental work.

Your knowledge can be used to implement public policy and incite change

It can be daunting to affect change as an actor. There are many obstacles that could impede your path.

The Adam Smith Centre will guide you through the process of using experimentation and outside-of-the box thinking to overcome these obstacles and effect real change from the bottom up.
