Course Description

Do you ever dream of being one of the outstanding artists whose work appears on calendars like Robin Pickens or Mary Kate McDevitt? If the calendar sells well they will license artwork from the same artists year after year. This sets a high standard for all others. This class will guide you through the entire process with the help of an artist who has published a calendar.

The entire process will be explained to you, from the initial selection of the art to the layout and final art. You will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and inDesign. You will receive verbal guidance to help you make sure your art style is unique and that the manufacturer can add your calendars to their product line. A niche theme is better than a regular theme. This will allow you to offer a unique design that is on-trend and could be the key to your success. If your idea is popular, the manufacturer may be willing and able to license it. My Great Day Calendar was licensed to Trends International. It also included my mixed media journal art, which I discussed in this course. I submitted new designs using the same theme for the next year.

This course will cover 6 lessons and specific concepts.

Inspiration and selection for your art, and choosing a theme

Scanning, cleaning-up, and formatting your art

Adobe Illustrator line art drawing techniques

In Adobe Photoshop, you can combine vector and raster artwork to create final art.

Production of custom monthly labels.

Packaging and finishing your final layouts in InDesign

You will receive the bonus of...

Over 40 minutes of instruction from an instructor who is experienced in publishing art calendars

A template to help you prepare your final art and instructions for its use

A checklist of steps to help you implement your plan successfully

A list of manufacturers that accept artist submissions

After my class is over, I encourage you try my methods and to share your ideas in the projects section. Participate in the process and receive constructive advice from fellow artists! This is the best guideline for anyone new to art licensing. What are you waiting for?! Start the Pitch to Publish course NOW!
