Course Description

The course begins with the basics of CFD. Here, one will be able to understand the mathematics behind CFD as well as how CFD software works. CFD programming will be taught in MATLAB.

Students will be able to understand how to set up aerodynamic simulations on external aerodynamics platforms such as ANSYS Fluent and StarCCM+.

Students will be able to simulate external aerodynamics simulations, in a manner similar to what is done in the industry.

Students will be able to understand the basics of CFD external aerodynamics simulations.

The projects include:

  • 1-D Supersonic flow using MacCormack method

  • 2-D Heat conduction simulation with transient and steady approaches

  • Experimental validation of flow through an Ahmed body

  • Automated blockMesh generation with openFOAM

  • Mercedes trucks are surrounded by external aerodynamics

  • The FSAE racing car is subject to external aerodynamics.

  • The NACA Airfoil is dominated by external aerodynamics

Students can apply for roles such as

  • CFD Application engineer

  • CFD Analyst

  • Aerodynamics engineer

  • CFD Engineer

Students who complete this program are hired by companies.

  • Ansys

  • CD-Adapco

  • EASI

  • Xitadel

  • DEP

  • Valeo
