Course Description

This short course online provides an overview of prescreening, testing, and programming for older adults to develop health and fitness goals. The physical and mental effects that ageing has on chronic health issues are discussed. This population is discussed in relation to the possibility of working with or referring an Allied Health Professional. This course will prepare you to:

Describe the recommended physical activity guidelines for older adults. Prescreening and fitness testing for older adults is recommended. Identify fall prevention strategies for the fitness setting. Explain the program of exercise for older adults, including strength, conditioning, and progression programs. You should also consider safety issues for older people in the fitness environment. Examine the referral routes for Medical and Allied Health Professionals to manage fitness programs for older adults with health concerns.
