Course Description

To view, understand, query and visualize spatial data, learn the foundations of GIS technology. This will help you to solve problems and make better decisions.

“GIS aims to uncover meaning and insights within data. CEO of Esri (creators of ArcGIS).

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), was once a specialized technology that was only available to data scientists and geographers. GIS is now accessible to all. GIS is used by thousands of organizations from almost every industry to analyze data and create maps that reveal patterns and relationships, to share insights and to solve complex problems of global to local significance.

GIS professionals are in high demand. This professional GIS certificate program will give a thorough introduction to the state-of-the art methods and modern GIS applications with the goal of preparing students for entry-level GIS jobs as well as undergraduate programs in geospatial science. Students will use the industry-leading ArcGIS Pro GIS software to work with GIS data sets in order to support better decision making across multiple applications.

GIS is a rapidly growing technology field that has many applications in both government agencies and private industry. Global GIS market value was $7.5 billion in 2019 and is projected to rise to $25.6 billion by 2030 (Source).

GIS applications are booming due to the increasing investments made in GIS-based infrastructure by both the government for military and aerospace purposes and by the private sector for real time decision-making in sectors such as construction, utilities and mining.
