Course Description

Video game soundtracks have influenced our culture from early arcade games to current open-world adventures.

This course will introduce you to videogame music and the platforms that make it possible (such as Atari and NES). It will also focus on the evolution and legacy of the 8-bit sound.

Exclusive interviews with top musicians and game composers. You'll have access to recorded examples, demos, and code samples.

Technology, musicology and cultural studies will be used to trace the evolution of videogame music, from Pong to the intricate arrangements found in today's first-person shooters.
