Caltech, a world-renowned engineering and science institute, marshals some the brightest minds in the world and provides innovative tools to tackle fundamental scientific questions as well as pressing social challenges. Caltech manages JPL for NASA. This allows them to send probes to study the planets in our solar system, and measure changes on Earth. Caltech also has large-scale research facilities, such as the Seismological Laboratory. It also manages a global network astronomical observatories including the Palomar Observatories and W. M. Keck Observatories. Caltech, an independent institution supported privately, has a campus of 124 acres in Pasadena.
