Institute Overview

The University of London was established in 1836 by Royal Charter for the public good and is internationally recognized. The University has been able to offer a variety of academic opportunities throughout its long history. The University is a global leader in higher education and has been a pioneer in this sector. The University was the first university to accept students regardless of gender, race, or religion. We also were the first university in the world to offer degree programs to women. In 1865, we became the first university to allow students to study anywhere they want, and provide access to higher education worldwide. Our unique approach to education has made a difference in the lives of millions around the globe for almost 200 years. Charles Dickens called us the "People's University".
