The territory manager is responsible for the specific region (or the territory) for a company and serves as a link between the headquarters of the company and the presence of the company in their territory. The territory sales manager's main responsibility is to boost sales within their region. However, the territory sales manager also has the responsibility to develop potential business partnerships, making sure that the needs of customers are met and making sure that the presence of the company within their area is in line with the expectations and standards of the company. A territory manager also ensures that the headquarters of the company is kept informed about their area of responsibility through presentation and reports. Based on how big the business, their territory manager could be required to also hire and dismiss new employees, and also ensure that the new employees are properly trained.
Since the territory sales manager typically supervises a large number of employees within the area they are assigned which means a lot of travel is necessary. when it comes to travel time, sales managers usually are employed for more than 40 hours per week and could be available for emergency situations. Since a large portion of the time of a territory sales manager is spent travelling throughout their region the work environment can differ greatly.
A college degree is typically not required to be an area sales director. Experience in sales and management is usually considered more significant than formal education. Three or five years' experience in sales management are typically needed.
