Course Overview
MATLAB is a technical programming language used to study statistics. With the help of MATLAB for Mechanical Engineers, a course by Skill-Lync, one can easily do calculations and solve complex structures. Moreover, it also allows one to simulate real-world systems and use them to develop many mathematical models. Applications of MATLAB can be seen in various core industries, especially in the (Research and Development) R&D sector.
By the end of this course, the learners would be able to create various complex mathematical models after working on our challenge set. Skill Lync is the provider of this certification program which is targeted at Mechanical or Automotive engineering graduates and professionals.
The top skills gained from this course include Project Planning, Project Selection Technique, Structural Analysis, Structural Design, Creativity, Simulation, and Design Simulation. The unique feature offered with this course includes job assistance and work experience on a Capstone Project. Students create various complex mathematical models by the end of this program after working on a challenge set.

Course Structure
This self-paced certification program is an intermediate-level course taught online by experienced faculty members. There are 6 modules in the program's curriculum which is mentored by industry specialists associated with Fortune 500 companies. Students get access to high-quality recorded content and practice assignments given at the start of each week during the program.
To get a verified course completion certificate, the students must have finished all the course lectures, assignments, and technical projects. The evaluations are designed to assure constant student attention and encourage learning.
Technically, the course is spread over 6 modules, namely:
- Module 1: Introduction to MATLAB
- Module 2: Forward Kinematics Simulator
- Module 3: Air Standard Cycle Simulator
- Module 4: Vibrations and Dynamics
- Module 5: Curve Fitting and Regression
- Module 6: Genetic Algorithm
Insider Tips
In order to get the best out of this course, I have included some important tips below that I think you might find useful:
Prepare Yourself
- Your ultimate aim should be to understand the course, rather than to complete it.
- Take a minimum of 3 days per exercise. Meanwhile, Read library functions, commands in MATLAB through the website.
- Practice Curve fitting, Statistics and Machine Learning, Control Systems, Signal Processing, Mapping, Deep Learning, Financial Analysis, Image Processing, Text Analysis, Electric vehicle Designing, Aerospace and Audio Toolbox application problems.
- Strengthen basic mathematical concepts such as matrix, array, algebra, numbers, polynomial, and differential equations.
- Refer a book by R.V Dukkipati “MATLAB for Mechanical Engineers”.
Assessment or Grading Criteria
No examination is compulsory for the certificate course. To get a verified course completion certificate, students must have finished all the course lectures, assignments, and technical projects. Only then a certificate of completion is awarded. The evaluations are designed to assure constant student attention and encourage learning.
Hands-on Training
Students get an edge over counterparts by working considerably on industry-relevant projects, practicing on tools and software that set them apart and help them get ahead of the competition. One of the leading projects of the course is the File Parsing or the Cycle Simulator.
Knowledge of the Given Prerequisites
Having knowledge of the required skills is important. It will enhance your learning during the course.. For example, in this course, you are required to have some fundamental knowledge as mentioned below:
- Introduction to MATLAB: Basic shortcut commands, functions, variable functions, usage of arrays, plotting graph, format codes, format functions (https://www.tutorialspoint.com/matlab/matlab_commands.htm ), elementary functions, programming methods, numerical methods, control structures, descriptive statistics (https://www.mathworks.com/content/dam/mathworks/fact-sheet/matlab-basic-functions-reference.pdf )
- Forward Kinematics Simulator: Review of vector quantities , rigid body dynamics, center of mass, torque, angular momentum, angular acceleration, conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, centripetal acceleration, radial and tangential forces, work power and energy, Equations of energy, Mohr’s circle method.
- Air Standard Cycle Simulator: Heat balance performance characteristics, heat/thermal efficiencies, laws of thermodynamics, carnot cycle, otto cycle, diesel cycle, rankine cycle, brayton cycle, gas turbine cycle, energy conservation and energy audit, piston kinematics equations.
- Vibrations & Dynamics: Review of simple harmonic motions, the vibration of a spring and mass system, frequency response, damping and resonance, wave motion, attenuation of waves, differential equation of a plane progressive wave, phase velocity, phase and phase difference.
- Curve Fitting & Regression: Develop a functional relationship between variables, perform trend analysis, predict the dependent variable by the independent variable(s), optimize processes, fit response surface, analyze data from unplanned experiments, linear regression, six sigma, logistic regression, ridge regression, lasso regression, polynomial regression, model summary statistics.
- Genetic Algorithm: Stalagmite functions, initial population, fitness function, selection, crossover, mutation, the notion of natural selection, control parameters, genetic algorithm variants, selective mating by clustering, constraint handling.
Final Take
Being a production engineer undergraduate, I learnt a lot regarding the MATLAB software and its criticalities from this course. I believe that the knowledge I gained via this capsule would certainly aid me in my final year Capstone project. I also explored the programming portion in MATLAB and found that it’s completely different from conventional programming languages. It is very user-friendly and easy to learn. One can explore basic MATLAB commands and library functions here.
