For beginners who are just beginning to explore this part of the CG pipeline, rigging can be daunting. There are many terms to remember, including weight painting, constraints and axis roll.
These topics will be covered in this Skillshare class. My goal is to help students understand the basics of rigging so they can create more complex sets to bring their creations to life. It is not necessary to have any previous blender knowledge in order to take this class. You can see what I'm doing by seeing all my keystrokes on the screen.
Rigging is a highly skilled position that can take years to master in larger studios. This skill can be learned and incorporated into your CG toolkit will make you a better CG artist.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and I'll be waiting for you in the first section.
Road map
Lesson 1-2:
- We will start by learning basic concepts and techniques that will be useful later when we rig and pose a human character (except for facial rigging, which is a topic for another class). Make human is a free open-source program that created the base mesh. You can download it here.
Lesson 3:
- We will use what we have learned so far to create a simple rig that can be used with the box asset. It only contains a few bones and will reinforce the concepts before moving on to the more complicated human rig.
Lesson 4:
- This section will be divided into six parts. This section will walk you through how to import a human base mesh, add a rig, apply constraints and controls, and attach the final rig onto your human character.
