Course Description

This tutorial will show you how to transform a 2D image into 3D using NUKE and camera projection in Maya. We'll quickly be able create realistic scenes by using a reference image in Maya, and NUKE's powerful tools for compositing and 3D environment. The tutorial will begin by explaining the principles behind camera projection and what makes an image good to project. Next, we'll set up our camera in Maya to match move and learn how to position it correctly. Then we'll model and animate a new camera. Next, we will export our Maya data to NUKE's 3D toolkit and then set up our projections. The scene will be completed in NUKE by creating the sky dome and then using its 2D tools to create attractive effects. We'll then use Maya's mental-ray renderer to create realistic reflections, and combine them with our NUKE projections for our final composite. Maya 2011 NUKE 6.1 or higher is required.

What You Will Learn

1 and up

By using a reference photo inside Maya and using NUKE's powerful compositing tools and 3d environment, we'll be able to create realistic scenes quickly and easily

Finally, we'll use Maya's mental ray renderer to create realistic reflections and composite them on top of our NUKE projections to create our final composite

Learn how to turn a 2D image into a 3D scene using camera projection in Maya and NUKE

Software required Maya 2011, NUKE 6

Then we'll export our Maya data and bring it in to NUKE's 3D toolset and set-up our projections

We'll begin the tutorial by learning about the theories behind camera projection what makes a good image to project

We'll finish the scene in NUKE by creating a sky dome and using it's 2d tools to create appealing effects

We'll then model our buildings and animate a new camera

We'll then set-up our camera in Maya for match moving and look at a technique to get our camera in the correct position
