Course Description

Hello, welcome to Character Modeling and Texturing for Game - UV Unwrapping. This class is part of the complete course Character Modeling and Texturing for Game - complete Pipeline.

This course will teach you how to create, retopo and texture animation ready characters for games in Zbrush, Maya Topogun, Substance Painter, and Topogun.

Are you interested in learning the entire process of creating a character for a game? If so, then this course is for you.

Welcome and Instructor Introduction

Nalin is my name. I am a 3d Texturing and Modelling Artist and an Educator.

Since 2008, I have been teaching at various institutions such as ZICA and Reliance Education. I have also been a character modeling and texturing artist at Dhruva Interactive and Lakshya Digital.

Let's take a look at how the course works and what it has in store for us. There would be thirteen modules.

1st Module - You will learn Zbrush from scratch and how to create and paint polygons by creating a small stylized head project.

2nd Module - I will start the main character project. You will learn how to block in the character using dynamesh or zsphere.

3rd Module -you'll learn how to block the clothing of the character using a different method than I use in production.

4th Module -you'll learn how to define your face features and make it look beautiful.

5th Module - You will learn how to create stylized hair with zmodeler and a specific brush.

6th Module - I will demonstrate how to create stylized clothing wrinkles.

7th Module - You will learn how to model and sculpt hard surface objects using dynamesh, zmodeler and other Technics

8th Module - You will learn Maya Basics in this module. It is intended for absolute beginners.

9th Module - I will perform character retopology using Maya, Topogun, and Zbrush. We will start with Maya Retopo. Here you will learn how Quad draw tool is used for retopology. Then I will switch to Topogun, a specialized software for retopology. You will learn its magical tools to quickly retopo your character. Next, we will learn how Zbrush can be used to create low-poly models.

10th Module - You will learn character UV unwrapping with Maya 2018, a new tool set. Here are some powerful tools and ways I can unwrap. Finally, we will create the UV layout.

11th Module - I will be baking various maps, including Normal, Ambient Occlusion, Curvature and Curvature using Substance painter. I will also show you how to correct any errors in these maps.

12th Module - We are going to texture the character within substance painter. I will start by learning the basics of the software. Next, I will texture the clothing. You will learn how to make leather jackets. Later, I will make the character look a bit dirty by adding dirt to it. Then I will work on the skin, the make-up on the face, and then we will paint the eyes. Next, I will apply metal materials to the hard surfaces. Next, you will learn how glowing emmisive parts can be created. Finally, we will render our character using iray.

13th Module - then, in the final module I will conclude and wrap up this course.

Ideal Students

This course was created with beginners in mind. However, it can be very helpful for intermediate to advanced character artists and students who want to create their own characters but struggle to do so because they lack step-by-step guidance.
