Course Description

Patterns are a great way of adding excitement and playfulness into any design project. There are many patterns to choose from, but the most popular are these bold, quirky, and striking Neo-Memphis-style patterns. This trend is everywhere a pattern can be used!

Evgeniya Rigini-Brand is my name and I will be teaching this class techniques and tools for creating eye-catching abstract patterns using Adobe Illustrator. I love patterns as a graphic designer and use them often in my projects.

These abstract patterns are simple, entertaining, and easy. They don’t require any drawing skills. This class is for everyone. I will walk you through how to create your own set if abstract patterns that you can use in any way you like.

I can't wait to see your designs, so enrol now and let us make something amazing!

In this class, I'll cover

  • Designing abstract patterns:
  • You can create pattern elements using a variety of tools, including Pen, Pencil and Smooth, as well as Blob Brush, Shape tools, and Blob Brush.
  • You can customize the pattern elements by using Stroke settings
  • Arranging pattern elements and creating chaotic, repeatable seamless patterns that are both non-repeatable and manually arranged;
  • Colouring and recolouring techniques
  • Exporting tiled artwork from Illustrator and saving pattern swatches

The abstract patterns that you create in this class can also be used in many different ways:

  • Print products (to print or upload to platforms such as Society6)
  • Various elements of visual identity systems
  • Wrapping paper, printed fabric, or wallpaper can be printed and sold through platforms such as Spoonflower
  • Photo backgrounds
  • Backgrounds for websites
