Course Description

This course aims to equip you with the skills to create a project plan, manage stakeholders and relationships, organize your team, write a project charter and make a business case.

This course will help you: - Conduct a project assessment using data from past projects and lessons learned; - Identify key deliverables, based upon business requirements, while managing customer expectations. - Develop a project management plan and prepare a charter. - Inform stakeholders about the charter and make sure they are aware of all deliverables. As part of the course you will create organization charts and a Stakeholder Register and write a Project Charter, based on an engineering case study. The Stakeholder Register will list the key stakeholders to the project and their concerns. It will also outline how you will manage their expectations. The Project Charter will give your team the essential guidance they need to understand the scope, requirements, and purpose of the project. This will help you to plan and initiate your first project, or how you can best contribute to your next team. Rice Center for Engineering Leadership has been registered as an education provider with the Project Management Institute (PMI). The Certificate track learners will receive 12 hours of Profession Development Units. These units can be used to earn 35 hours education towards the Project Management Professional (PMP(r)) certification. PMI and PMP registered marks of Project Management Institute, Inc.
