Course Description

MicroStation, a high-end CAD program developed by Bentley Systems, can create simple 2D drawings as well as complex photorealistic 3D projects. This video will teach you about MicroStation CONNECT, how to use its 2D tools, and drawing techniques. Peter Mann, the instructor, starts with the basics. He will walk you through opening, saving, and navigating the various views. He will also explain how to control the elements and what they are. Then, you'll move on to an explanation of AccuDraw. This is MicroStation's most important tool.
You will learn how to create shapes, scale, rotate and work with annotations, text, and finally, how to plot and print your finished designs. Access to working files that contain drawing exercises, drawing setups, and a real floor plan of an architectural building is included in the course. This will allow you to practice your new skills.

  • Learn how to use MicroStation CONNECT's basic drawing tools and MicroStation CONNECT 2D tools
  • Get familiar with the dialog boxes and interface ribbon
  • Learn about the tool settings window, element selection/de-selection, and snaps
  • Learn how to use the design plane, enter angles and set dimensions.
  • Learn how AccuDraw works and the shortcut keys to use it.
  • Learn how to create and use SmartLines, arcs and ellipses.
  • Learn about element symbology, and how to manipulate and alter the toolbox
  • Learn how to annotate, dimension, measure elements, and plotting/printing

Since 1998, Peter Mann has helped students, engineers, architects, builders, and others to use Bentley MicroStationCAD software. He teaches MicroStation at Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology, Ontario, and is the author of 14 MicroStation textbooks. These include the O'Reilly titles Bentley Microstation V8i, Bentley Microstation V8i level 2, and Bentley Microstation V8i 3D.
