Course Description

This 2-hour-long project-based course will teach you how to create an agent-based modeling (ABM) that simulates the spread a hypothetical virus by close contact between agents in a virtual environment. You will learn all about agent-based modeling and NetLogo, one of the most powerful simulation environments in the world. ABM's beauty is the ability to observe emergent properties that result from the coded interactions of agents in the simulated environment. By experimenting with different interaction parameters and rules, we can gain a better understanding of the underlying dynamics for complex phenomena. These skills are invaluable for anyone in a decision-making position as well as education, especially in a world that is increasingly interconnected. This model and project are extremely sensitive to the global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus. Note: This course is best for those who live in the North America region. We are currently working to offer the same experience in other areas.

Skills You Will Gain

What You Will Learn

Become familiar with abm and the netlogo environment, using its command center to create the first agents of a simulation

Give agents custom variables and specify the "go" and "move" procedures, with the help of the netlogo's dictionary

Create Plots and monitors to observe the virus spread in the simulation
