Course Description

Jazz can be as solo or in a group. Both require different skills. This course will teach you how to play solo jazz piano.

Through a mixture of theory and practice you'll learn how to play solo piano and also how to analyse and play two classic jazz songs.

Then you'll be able to go deeper into root position (also known as solo playing). You will learn new techniques and be able to analyse and play three standard jazz songs.

You'll learn about the various devices that jazz pianists use to start and end tunes with the help of waltz intros.

Scale theory will be covered before you learn about the melodic minor ascending and Ionian scales.

The course will end with an examination on chord theory. The course will teach you how to re-harmonise chord sequences and how to play and analyze classic jazz piano tracks.

You'll be able, by the end of this course, to apply your knowledge of modulation devices and scale theory to your solo playing. You will also be able to play and improvise jazz waltzes.
