Course Description

Preventable patient harms, including medical errors and healthcare-associated complications, are a global public health threat. Patients are often denied access to treatments and other interventions that can improve their outcomes. These problems are often not due to individual errors by clinicians but rather to systemic problems like communication breakdowns, poor teamwork and poorly designed care processes. The Patient Safety and Quality Leadership Specialization addresses the concepts and methods used to improve healthcare processes. Participants who are successful will be able to develop a system's perspective on safety and quality issues and learn strategies for improving culture and teamwork, managing change, and measuring success. They will be able to lead any aspect of a patient safety or quality improvement project using the techniques described in the seven courses.
