Course Description

Two courses are part of the Water and Ports, Historic Cities and Landscapes program: (Re)Imagining Port Cities and Water Works. This program examines all factors that can lead to sustainable development of port cities. This program lays the foundations to shape the present and design the future of historic urban centers in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. It includes an understanding of urban form and function, respect for history and heritage, and connecting with institutions and cultural aspects of communities to whom decisions about spatial development should be made.

These courses are focused on key issues identified in the UN SDGs relating to Water and Cities. These courses are applicable to the port cities, while the second applies them to historic cities and landscapes.

These courses are tailored to meet the needs of professionals in port and city management, heritage professionals, and students studying the built environment. This program provides advanced insight into the cultural, spatial and social dimensions of water, ports, and historic cities around the world. The integrated and transdisciplinary approach to urban problems will be used. You will combine a technology-based vision and social and cultural approaches to solve urban problems. This is in line with TU Delft's mission statement, Impact for a Better Society and the LDE PortCityFutures Centre's goals to raise awareness about water and port cities. In order to better understand the role of water as a part of the design of future cities, and landscapes, you will use a variety of tools to engage diverse stakeholders.
