Course Description

Although virtualization of SQL Server instances has become very popular in IT infrastructures it is very common to see poorly configured virtual machines that cause severe performance issues for SQL Server workloads. This course will teach you how to configure, monitor, and control Hyper-V virtual machines that are used to host SQL Server instances. It also teaches you how to troubleshoot common performance issues caused by virtualization. This course explains how virtualization works and why it has become so popular. The course then covers the different memory, CPU and storage considerations when virtualizing SQL Server. Finally, it demonstrates how to configure virtual machines for SQL Server. The course then discusses Hyper-V's high availability and disaster recovery capabilities, as well as how to backup virtual machines. The course explains how to monitor and improve the performance of virtual machine guests and hosts in VMware and Hyper-V. It also discusses the limitations that can prevent a SQL Server workload being successfully virtualized. This course is ideal for IT administrators and DBAs responsible for managing any aspect of virtualizing SQL Server environments, starting with SQL Server 2005.
