Course Description

The Department for Education's new Early Career Framework (ECF), provides a statutory entitlement for teachers in their early years of teaching to receive two years of professional education. All new teachers in England will have access to the ECF starting in 2021. This course is for school leaders and mentor teachers, who will be involved in the implementation of the ECF. This course will teach you how to support and plan for early-career teachers' professional development via the ECF. Learn about teacher learning and expertise, as well as pedagogical methods for teacher education. With peers, you'll share your understanding of teacher competence and your vision for teacher education in your area. The ECF was created to support the professional development of early-career teachers. You'll also learn what additional training early-career teachers will need in order to fully prepare them for their role. The importance of planning for implementation will be explained to you. Learn about the findings of research and practice, and how to use them to help you plan your implementation of the ECF. Mentoring is a specialist practice. You will hear from early career teachers and mentors about the ECF's early rollout. You will learn how to provide high-quality mentoring for your ECF program.

The UCL Institute of Education is the provider of this course, which is a world leader in teacher education. The Institute of Education evaluated and managed the initial roll-out of ECF in northern England. It is an accredited provider of the Dfs national rollout in 2021.
