You've probably always wanted to know how to modify a WordPress plugin or theme so it looks and functions exactly as you want. Our ability to create a WordPress website is often dependent on the options available to us through plugins and themes. This course will help you to create your own WordPress templates and functions.
The WordPress Loop
WordPress's most important and crucial function is the WordPress Loop. In this course you will learn how it works and how to modify it to change the display of your page and post content.
To build a WordPress blog about movies, we will use the starter theme (underscores).
This section introduces you to the core templates files you'll find in every WordPress theme, as well as the WordPress template hierarchy that determines which template file will display content.
Next, we will learn more about WordPress template tags. The loop is responsible for displaying your post content. Next, we will learn how to set custom image sizes. This will allow you complete control over how your media files appear on your website. Section 4 will conclude with how to customize WordPress queries and post excerpts.
In the next section, we will discuss advanced custom fields and custom post types that are essential to your arsenal of WordPress developers. The next section will teach you how to create custom templates files that allow you to control the content displayed on your website.
Next, we will discuss custom sidebars and how they can be created and displayed. Next, we will build our custom home page template. We'll also learn how to load custom style sheets.
Then, you will learn about conditional tags and taxonomy templates. Finally, we'll look at global variables and how they work outside of the WordPress loop.
Then, I'll show you how to create your own custom WordPress functions. These are the steps we will take:
- Display the current time using a function
- An option to add Google Analytics
- Function to create a custom gravatar
- An option to add profile authors
- An option to hide the WordPress version
The course will be concluded by a discussion about the WordPress installation directory, and database management.
Section
The project will allow you to apply your newly acquired skills to a real-world situation. You will create a menu for a restaurant using advanced custom fields and post types. This menu will be displayed by customizing the WordPress loop or page templates.
I cannot wait to see you enroll in this WordPress development course.
I look forward to seeing you from the inside.
Alex.
