Course Description

There's a lot of excitement about Web3 as well as blockchain. Like any disruptive technology there are a myriad of different source of data. If we can look past the hype and mania, not to forget the uncertainty, fear and doubt, we can see that something profoundly happening. The world is witnessing one of the biggest transformations in wealth in the history of mankind, from analog paper assets to digital ones. Blockchain is the first digital medium of value and is the foundational element of the future generation of the Internet, also called Web3. In this brief course, you will learn about the basics of what Web3 is, and what it is different in comparison to Web1 as well as Web2 in significant ways. Blockchain is the technology that will be the basis for the Web3 age, and be introduced to key concepts like the concept of digital assets (tokens) and intelligent contracts (smart contracts), decentralized autonomous organisations (DAOs) as well as Blockchain's "trilemma." The course will be able to explain seven fundamental principles that guide the development of blockchain-based systems and seven areas of challenge when implementing blockchain technology. You'll be able to determine the issues you should consider before deciding if blockchain technology is suitable for a specific issue or application, and you will be able to provide the real-world examples of businesses who have incorporated blockchain technology into their business strategies. This course is not technical (i.e. there is no need to code) and is designed to be accessible to a wide population. The video content for the courses is based on the "Blockchain Revolution Specialization" and "Web3 and Blockchain in Global Commerce Specialization," which has been edited and remixed to serve as a short course.
