Associate vice-presidents (AVP) of finance collaborate with the vice president to ensure the integrity of finances of an organization, which includes making sure that it operates efficiently in the internal control system. They are responsible for making sure that the business follows good financial management practices, and also managing fiscal activities, accounting payable and receivable, budget and payroll, purchasing and various other areas.
AVPs of Finance and Operations must ensure that the business adheres to the applicable laws and regulations, both federal and state and regulations. They also collaborate closely with the external and internal auditors. They also must conduct reviews of performance for employees according to the company's guidelines procedures, policies, and procedures and give prompt feedback.
An undergraduate degree in financial management or another related field, and a significant amount of prior experience in management and finance is required for this job as well as strong verbal and writing skills are essential. Leadership and interpersonal skills are essential to create a solid teams, and they must also be proficient with Microsoft Office programs. They should keep their knowledge and skills current through reading financial journals and they can also conduct interviews with prospective senior employees, or guide and coach their employees.
