Senior information technology (IT) auditors perform specialized auditing involving a broad range of information technology and operational functions. They also plan and manage complex audits, as well as perform project management duties such as organizing, reviewing, and reporting on the work of their team. They also provide IT and auditing support and assist the IT audit manager in the execution of the IT audit plan; this includes designing the overall IT audit plan for achieving internal audit's goals. Senior information technology auditors also perform the IT annual risk assessment, lead and perform technology-related and other operational audits. This work is generally fast-paced and occurs in an office setting.Qualifications for this position generally include a bachelor's degree in management information system, computer science, information security, business administration, or a related field. They must also usually have four years or more of internal and/or external audit experience. Written and verbal communication skills are musts, as are the ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines. Additionally, senior IT auditors must have an ability to work effectively as part of a team while also successfully executing independent assignments. Analytical and creative problem-solving skills are also preferred. Candidates must also have advanced knowledge of IT audit standards, methods, and tools. Experience in insurance of financial services is preferred.
