Production schedulers are accountable in coordinating and preparing production schedules on a weekly or daily basis to achieve objectives. They keep track of the inventory levels and assist in the supply of necessary components and materials. Sometimes production schedulers are accountable for coordinating the delivery of products to clients.
A productive production scheduler must have excellent computer skills and basic understanding of scheduling in the production. They should have excellent management skills to handle daily master schedules for weekly and daily, and also have efficient communication skills. In many companies production schedulers are required to multitask and shift workers and equipment around in order to meet deadlines and demands of customers. They also have to be accountable to meet production targets and are expected to formulate actions plans and keep a clear view in the workplace to encourage the success of workers.
Production schedulers also look at the past and present to create reports and develop more efficient schedules. Although production schedulers generally have fixed hours, they are typically available in the event of any production issues that require to be addressed immediately.
Production schedulers generally require at least an associate's level degree in management or another relevant field. A bachelor's degree is preferred. Experience in the production field is advantageous, as well as experience with the management of resources planning (MRP) is required.
