Distribution centers (DC) Operations supervisors are employed by mainly retailers. High school graduation or GED is necessary for this job, and certain employers require an undergraduate degree. Most employers require applicants to have some years of work experience in a management job, and a working knowledge of software for processing data as well as Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office suite of products is extremely beneficial.
The people in this job typically work on the floor and a lot of walking is likely to be required. The primary responsibility of a distribution center's operations manager is to ensure an efficient workflow and make sure that employees are well-motivated and productive. They frequently interact with employees, which is why having the ability to communicate effectively is crucial. They also give feedback to employees and train them on the latest methods, strategies and procedures. They should always strive to increase the efficiency and quality of work they do by identifying what needs to be altered or changed at work and then making plans to improve.
