This includes the planning and integration of engineering products into the existing system of a customer and resolving all technical issues, and making sure that the product functions properly. Once the products are installed the field engineers in charge of them maintain them and provide service in accordance with their customers' requirements; they can also upgrade and replace existing products too.

Field engineers in the senior ranks are accountable for the continuous analysis of engineering products produced by a company to ensure that quality control is maintained and to ensure the proper functioning. If there is a problem on the job they have to determine the root cause and recommend for corrections or updates to production.
